The chase for 82 and 16 continues on Friday.
Looking to add to his PGA Tour and major championship win totals this week at Bethpage Black, Tiger Woods is back on the course for the second round of the 101st PGA Championship. A four-time winner of the event in 1999, 2000, 2006 and 2007, Woods is playing the event for the 20th time this week.
The 2019 Masters and 15-time major champion shot a 2-over 72 on Thursday alongside Francesco Molinari and Brooks Koepka, who holds the lead after a course record 7-under 63. Follow Woods’ second round shot-by-shot below.
Hole 11: Par 4, 428 yards
OFF THE TEE: Fairway wood off the tee and he loses this one right in the thick rough. He’s tried everything possible to hit a fairway and it’s just not happening.
APPROACH SHOT: Tiger goes fairway wood again (ironically from the rough) and he gives this one a ride and lets it run on, and then off the back of the green. He’ll have plenty of green to work with from the rough to get up-and-down and save a par.
Hole 10: Par 4, 492 yards
OFF THE TEE: Good news here is Tiger hit a 317 yard bomb on No. 10. Bad news here is he’s in some serious trouble. If you thought his lie on No. 1 was bad, this one just may be worse.
SECOND SHOT: Tiger just had to punch this right back to the fairway. He was feeling a little sick on Wednesday and skipped his practice round, but after all the medicine he’s had to take on the course today, he’s got to be feeling better.
APPROACH SHOT: Tiger had a great line here and hits a solid shot to give himself a chance to save par from a tad over 11 feet.
ON THE GREEN: Double bogey yesterday, bogey today as his par putt just misses. Back to the cut line.
TIGER ON THE DAY: 1-over thru 10 (3-over overall).
Hole 9: Par 4, 464 yards
OFF THE TEE: Nine holes later and the Big Cat finally hit a fairway. Right-center, with 177 yards to the cup.
APPROACH SHOT: Tiger flies this one right over the hole, and he’ll have just inside 40 feet for birdie. Meanwhile, Brooks Koepka is as dialed-in as ever. He’s 3-under today and at 10-under overall holds a four-shot lead over Tommy Fleetwood.
ON THE GREEN: How about that! Tiger puts the marinara on the pasta and perfectly paces this one in the cup for birdie and strolls to No. 10 with some momentum. Understatement of the day: that was huge.
TIGER ON THE DAY: Even thru 9 (2-over overall).

Hole 8: Par 3, 201 yards
OFF THE TEE: Can’t miss a fairway if there isn’t a fairway to miss! Tiger’s tee shot finds the green, 20 feet from the cup. Nice, safe shot.
ON THE GREEN: If you’re still following this snoozefest, nothing to see here but a two-putt par.
TIGER ON THE DAY: 1-over thru 8 (3-over overall).
Hole 7: Par 4, 488 yards
OFF THE TEE: What is going on off the tee?! He’s won more than $100 million on the PGA Tour and he can’t even buy a fairway today. Another miss left. He’ll have 208 yards to the green, if he can get it there (lie depending).
SECOND SHOT: Not a whole lot to do but take his medicine and advance the ball up the fairway. He’s a little right, flirting with the first cut intermediate rough.
APPROACH SHOT: Not a bad wedge, finishing just beyond the green, six feet from the cup.
ON THE GREEN: No dice here for TW. Birdie putt skates right past the cup and he cleans up for bogey. Just doesn’t have it.
TIGER ON THE DAY: 1-over thru 7 (3-over overall).
Hole 6: Par 4, 402 yards
OFF THE TEE: Fairway wood here off the tee and ironically misses another fairway. 0-5 finding the short stuff off the tee. As the kids say, the struggle is real.
APPROACH SHOT: Lucky break here as Tiger’s second shot finds the green and just trickles off. He hits the first cut rough and rolls back a few inches to stay on the fringe. Should be able to putt that no problem.
ON THE GREEN: No problem indeed as Tiger sends the ball to the bottom of the cup for a much-needed birdie, his first of the day.
TIGER ON THE DAY: Even thru 6 (2-over overall).
The crowd’s been waiting for this.

Hole 5: Par 4, 470 yards
OFF THE TEE: Another missed fairway? You bet. Tiger finds the rough on the left side. He’s missed as many fairways through five holes as he did all day yesterday … where he shot 2-over.
APPROACH SHOT: Greenside bunker on the approach here. Can’t expect too much from that lie.
AROUND THE GREEN: Decent out stays just inside 10 feet, below the hole that’s located right on the front edge of the dance floor.
ON THE GREEN: He gets the putt to fall to avoid dropping outside the projected cut line. Still has some work to do to solidify his spot on the weekend.
TIGER ON THE DAY: 1-over thru 5 (3-over overall).
Hole 4: Par 5, 527 yards
OFF THE TEE: Eagle here yesterday, but probably not today after missing another fairway. That’s three straight. He missed four total yesterday. He cleared the bunker guarding the left side of the fairway, but didn’t clear the rough.
SECOND SHOT: Smart play here to try and get a good angle at the green. He advances up the fairway to the right to set up an up-and-down birdie attempt.
APPROACH SHOT: Nothing fancy here. Fires the shot onto the green, 25 feet below the hole located on the back portion of the green.
ON THE GREEN: Easiest hole of the day, and TW gets a two-putt par after the birdie putt misses a little right. Some of the easiest holes on the course and he played them 1-over. Not good.
TIGER ON THE DAY: 1-over thru 4 (3-over overall).
Hole 3: Par 3, 221 yards
OFF THE TEE: 4-iron here from the Big Cat and this one’s a beauty. He finds the green and lets it run a bit closer to the cup. He’ll have 10 feet for a bounce-back birdie.
ON THE GREEN: Too much speed here as Tiger hits the left edge of the cup. With four feet left for par, he cleans it up. Disappointing to waste a great tee shot.
TIGER ON THE DAY: 1-over thru 3 (3-over overall).
Hole 2: Par 4, 383 yards
OFF THE TEE: Tiger gave the club a twirl, but it’s a deceiving twirl. He’s in the thick stuff again. 0-2 on fairways hit, rough start (get it?).
SECOND SHOT: “The Tour pro is layin’ up.” If you get that quote, lets be friends. Tiger had a bad lie so he just lays up and advances up the fairway. Scrambling early, not a good sign.
APPROACH SHOT: Lob wedge from there and Tiger finds the screen and puts the spin on, but a bit too much. He’s just inside 20 feet for par. Don’t be surprised with a two-putt bogey from there.
ON THE GREEN: Right pace, wrong line. He comes up a few inches right of the cup and taps in for bogey. He’s right on the projected cut line.
TIGER ON THE DAY: 1-over thru 2 (3-over overall).
Hole 1: Par 4, 408 yards
OFF THE TEE: Round 2, here we go! Tiger slips a bit on his tee shot (it’s raining a tad) and this one went left. He’s in the tall fescue, that’s an awful lie. To quote Bull Durham and Crash Davis: I don’t know where this is gonna go.
SECOND SHOT: The New York crowd is in major-form today. It’s a madhouse around the ball, but Tiger somehow hammers this one out of the thick stuff and finds the bunker guarding the right side of the green. Not bad at all given the circumstance. Up-and-down chance for par still on the table after rough luck off the tee.

AROUND THE GREEN: Good out here from TW. The ball skates past the cup to the right and comes to rest inside five feet. Should be a par, but after yesterday’s miscues on the greens … who knows.
ON THE GREEN: Tiger knows. Simple putt. Par.
TIGER ON THE DAY: Even thru 1 (2-over overall).
Well this is just fun.
