  • FOUR! Now Roy brings out the reverse sweep sending the ball racing through point.

  • SIX! Roy welcomes Lyon into the attack with a beautiful lofted drive straight down the ground. 

  • The batsmen take singles off the first 3 balls as Behrendorff continues. The 4th ball is full outside off and Roy drives it beautifully through covers for 2 runs. He then drives the next ball straight down the ground for a single which also brings up the 50 for England. Bairstow blocks out the last ball. 6 runs off the over.

  • Roy doesn’t manage to take any runs off the first 5 balls from Cummins. The last ball is short onto the hips and this time Roy just clips it nonchalantly through the leg-side for FOUR. 4 runs off the over. This is an excellent start for England. Australia need to find some way to end this opening stand.

  • FOUR! Cummins bangs the ball short and Roy gets across and clips the ball powerfully through the leg-side.

  • Jason Behrendorff returns to the attack. Change of ends for the pacer. Roy comes charging down the track on the 1st ball but gets beaten as Behrendorff bangs the ball short. He then blocks out the 2nd ball. Behrendorff hits Roy on the pads with the next delivery but the umpire isn’t interested in the appeals as they pick up a leg bye. Bairstow clips the 4th ball to deep midwicket for 2 runs. He then drives the next delivery straight down the ground for FOUR. Behrendorff ends with a dot ball. 7 runs off the over.

  • FOUR! Behrendorff pitches the ball full and Bairstow drives it beautifully straight down the ground.

  • Pat Cummins comes into the attack. The two openers forcing an early bowling change from Australia. Bairstow doesn’t manage to take any runs off the first 3 balls. Cummins bangs the 4th delivery short and Bairstow just sways out of the way. Bairstow taps the 5th ball straight to the man at cover. He finally finds the gap past mid-off on the last ball with a drive for 2 runs. Just 2 runs off the over. Australia struggling to find a breakthrough at the moment.

  • Starc starts with a wide delivery down leg. The 1st ball is short and wide from Starc and Bairstow cashes in as he slashes the ball past point for FOUR. Bairstow blocks out the next ball and wants a quick single on the 3rd delivery but is sent back. He then manages to guide the 4th ball to third man for a single. Roy uses his wrists brilliantly as he just clips the 5th delivery for a SIX over fine leg. He then defends the last ball. 12 runs off the over.

    England 31/0 after 6 overs.

  • SIX! Starc goes full onto leg-stump and Roy just flicks it powerfully for a maximum over fine leg.

  • FOUR! Bairstow just slashes at the back of length delivery sending the ball racing through point. 

  • Bairstow drives the 1st ball straight to mid-on. He then slashes at the 2nd ball but just doesn’t time the shot well. Bairstow clips the 3rd ball to the leg-side for a single. Roy tucks the 4th ball towards midwicket for 2 runs. Behrendorff ends the over with 2 dot balls. 3 runs off the over.

  • The 1st delivery is a bit too full from Starc and Roy crunches it through extra cover for FOUR. He then flicks the 2nd ball through the gap at midwicket for 2 runs. Roy then just blocks out the next 3 balls. He then ensures a good end to the over driving the last ball beautifully through cover for FOUR. Great shot from Roy. 10 runs off the over.

  • FOUR! Roy drives on the up beautifully sending the last ball racing through cover. 

  • FOUR! Starc starts full looking for swing but Roy drives powerfully through extra cover.

  • There’s a pause in play as Bairstow has an issue with the sightscreen. He wants to make absolutely sure there aren’t any distractions as Behrendorff continues. Bairstow doesn’t pick the gaps on the first 3 balls. He just taps the 4th ball straight to the man at cover. Behrendorff gets the 5th delivery to swing away from Bairstow and it just beats the outside edge. Bairstow looks to drive on the up but gets beaten again on the last ball. Maiden over for Behrendorff.

  • Mitchell Starc comes into the attack. Roy blocks out the first 4 balls comfortably. He then has a swipe across the line on the 5th delivery which is banged short but misses as it hits him on the hip. The next delivery is wide down leg. Roy again presents the full face of his bat as he blocks out the last ball. Just 1 run off the over.

    England 6/0 after 2 overs.

  • Behrendorff immediately finds some swing into the batsman as Roy gets an inside edge on the 1st ball. He then blocks out the next two deliveries. Roy guides the 4th ball to third man for a single. Bairstow immediately gets off the mark with a drive through cover for FOUR. He then gets an inside edge to square leg on the last ball. 5 runs off the over. There’s some swing on offer and it’ll be interesting to see how Starc exploits it.

  • FOUR! Behrendorff pitches the ball full outside off and Bairstow drives brilliantly past cover.
